Facebook Reveals A Poet and Philosopher!

A remarkably true story!

Raimundo Arruda Sobrinho was born in 1938 in Brazil and he had a normal life. He lived in Sao Paolo where he worked as a gardener and a books seller for some years.
Nearly at the end of the military dictatorship of Brazil (officially ended in 1985), he became homeless and he thought that he will die on the streets...as he had to live at the same makeshift shelter for 35 years!

During all this time he used to write poems and stories inspired by his hard life on the streets. Yet his story was untold, until one woman shared it with the world, Shalla Monteiro.

They lived in the same city and Shalla passed by Raimundo on a daily basis and noticed that he always had a pen and paper in his hand. She befriended the old man and he gave her his writings...then Shalla created a Facebook Page to feature Raimundo’s poems and stories.

To date, his Facebook page has over 100,000 fans.

“The Conditioned” is a critically acclaimed documentary that follows the remarkable journey of this 77-year-old Brazilian poet and philosopher.
It was about time to leave the streets...as this amazing opportunity that Shalla offered him, emerged one much unexpected person: his long-lost brother, who asked him to live with him!

A new life has started for Raimundo since then! He left the streets and became a new person; he has cleaned himself up for the first time in 35 years and has gained a new home and the love of his brother and his dear friend Shalla!

This was an incredible story! While humans have turned him down he still believed in them and wrote profound words about humanity! You never really know where life will take you...There is the bad and the good side of this story! It is so reassuring to know that there are people who care like Shalla! She is a blessing, without her his poetry would be unknown, and Raimundo possibly would have never reunited with his brother.
