Compassion. Respect. Common Sense.

In some ways, is like giving them the welcome home they hadn't received when they came back from the war.

They just kept coming and the only think you can think of that moment is how is he going to do this? You can't just stop. Serving your country is something that no one can repay...this tribute though is unique!

Rolling Thunder is an annual motorcycle rally that is held in Washington, DC during the Memorial Day weekend to call for the government's recognition and protection of Prisoners of War (POWs) and those Missing in Action (MIAs). The tribute to American war heroes started out in 1988 with 2,500 participants. Now approximately 900,000 participants and spectators are involved with this annual demonstration in Washington, DC.

United States Marine Corps Veteran Staff Sergeant Tim Chambers is known to the world as The Saluting Marine for standing at attention for hours in the middle of the street during Rolling Thunder. In the video below, filmed in 2013, he held the salute for 3-4 hours while standing on concrete, surrounded by the bikers who zipped passed and around him. Despite having a broken wrist, Sgt. Chambers stood strong to perform his powerful act honoring veterans everywhere.

Sgt. Chambers stands with his makeshift memorial — boots, a rifle, flack jacket and Kevlar — displayed proudly at his feet. Over the years, families of fallen soldiers have donated personal items to symbolize their body and spirit.

The courageous feat is never lost on those who take part in Rolling Thunder. Many veterans stop on their bikes to salute to Sgt. Chambers, and thank him in return for upholding such a revered tradition.

Rolling Thunder, Ride for Freedom is an annual event held in Washington, DC, to raise awareness of and bring full accountability for the Prisoners of War–Missing in Action of all wars. It is organized by Rolling Thunder, Inc., a non-profit organization.

I wish to extend my deepest respect to this regular American Soldier that is anything but regular simply because he makes choices every day to serve others. He is an inspiration for every citizen of this country and he must be with all of us daily as we make our own decisions in life.

I salute you, Staff Sgt. Chambers and all that you do for the wounded warriors and their families. God bless you!
