A future in which we're all flying around on hoverboards may not have materialized just yet, but it does appear to be getting closer.
Canadian inventor Catalin Alexandru Duru's propeller-based hoverboard managed to travel a total distance of 275.9 m (905 ft 2 in) to achieve a new Guinness World Records title for farthest flight by a hoverboard.
Catalin had to achieve a distance of more than 50m to set a Guinness World Records title, but smashed this by travelling over five times the required target.
He traveled 275.9 meters, or 905 feet and 2 inches over a lake, but claims the board can travel over any terrain at crazy heights. He achieved the flight on August 25, 2014 but because of the verification process Guinness just released it to their YouTube page on Friday.
For the test the team decided to run on Lake Ouarea in Quebec to – according to Duru, “showcase that a stable flight can be achieved on a hoverboard and a human could stand and control with their feet.”
Watch his amazing flight!
Is one of these times you have the sense of playing a role in a science fiction movie, which some of them are proven to be literally prophetical!
I definitely need one of those! Future is here after all!
