Did You Know That The Lithium-ion Batteries Are Not Just For Laptops And Cars? They Are For Homes Too! OMG!

One of the major weaknesses of solar energy is that PV systems cannot produce energy when there is no sun. Some companies, including Tesla, BYD and Bosch, offer new generation lithium ion batteries -like those that used in the electric cars- to save energy by producing household photovoltaic systems. With these batteries a house could have electric power on a rainy day.

The advantage of these systems is that in cases of power failure, energy can be available for a day or two for household use. It can also decide when to make use of this energy. In markets where electricity is priced more expensive at peak hours, one could choose to use the stored energy for saving money.

Moreover, the existence of these batteries helps power companies to integrate the network of renewable sources. As solar energy works with fluctuations, which means that it causes instability in the grid voltage, the storage helps to balance these anomalies.

According to Elon Musk the next operation of Tesla is the creation of batteries that will be able to supply electric current for an entire household.

As he made clear the design of the new batteries is completed and within the next six months they could start mass production process. The only thing remaining is the date of launch of the new product of Tesla, which until now we only knew it from its electric cars.
Naturally, Tesla is not the only one that has a relative idea, if we recall, for example, Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell that gives owners the opportunity to remove the battery and use it to provide electricity for their home. The battery has been suggested to support with energy for a week an average house, when fully charged.

Tesla seems to be close to the disposal of its own proposal, which wants to make a difference, and, as noted, the company has held meetings with major utility companies and providing electrical services, in view of the implementation of the new plan, which is really very promising.

The big disadvantage for storage, however, is the price. These systems are expensive and it is not clear if they manage to recoup the money spent.

Despite the cost problem, many experts believe that long-term technology will improve and prices will fall making this solution attractive.

I think this is great; But don’t get me wrong, I do like batteries and moreover if they are eco friendly and money saving too but I’ m pretty sure it still needs to be charged somehow. Even if it has a much bigger capacity and holds its charge more efficiently it’s still just a battery!

Anyway, I hope it will be affordable and if you need a home to test I am right here!
