Epic Footage Shares The Experience Of Aquatic Weightlessness! Awesome!

The parallels between the sea floor and outer space are remarkable and diver Guillame Nery strives to draw those parallels even closer with videos of his diving excursions. In one titled "Ocean Gravity", Nery hitches a ride on an underwater current to float along a sea bed, spinning with the water with little regard for up and down in a way that gives the impression of an astronaut exploring an asteroid or other rocky, celestial body.

Filmed late last year by director and underwater cameraman Julie Gautier, this amazing footage shows free diver Guillaume Néry as he’s carried by swift currents through Tiputa pass, part of the Rangiroa atoll about 355 km Northeast of Tahiti. When you hear about strong currents near the ocean or large lakes, it’s difficult to visualize exactly how they work, or the power they carry. This film should quickly put those mysteries to rest. The speeds Néry reaches in this video seem almost impossible without the help of equipment or flippers.
“Ocean Gravity is a short film that turns underwater codes upside down and plunges us this time into a weightless world. Just like in space, there is no more up or down, no more right side up or upside down. The ocean becomes the cosmos, man becomes a satellite, and the bottom of the sea turns into an unknown planet. Welcome in the unsettling universe of Ocean Gravity.”

Gautier adds:

“I decided to film without considering the elementary framing rules. I was no longer limited by the idea of top and bottom, like in space. In those conditions, I was able to create the natural illusion of a curved planet. The big challenge was to avoid filming the abundant sea life (sharks, dolphins and numerous fish) to maintain a spatial and non-marine atmosphere.”

Surreal but extremely vivid! It is really amazing what secrets are still hidden in our planet! This footage took my breath away! Daredevil frames reveal the mysterious underwater world!
