The video compiles footage that is over a century old, but you can still recognize famous locations all over Manhattan, such as Bryant Park, the Williamsburg Bridge, Times Square and, most excitingly for us, the Madison Square Park area.
In the 19th and 20th centuries, dozens of beautiful old buildings were demolished to make way for new development. It wasn't until 1966, with the passage of the National Historic Preservation Act, that historic buildings could be protected by federal law.
It’s fascinating to see how New York has changed over the last century, yet manages to maintain its tremendous energy.
