A Well Hidden Treasure... Is Unearthed! WOW!

It is absolutely amazing what ancient civilizations have created...however what is the most stunning is that after so many years archaeologists can bring to light some of their treasures in excellent condition!

Three new mosaics have been unearthed during the Muzalar House excavations in the ancient city of Zeugma in Turkey's southern province of Gaziantep.
The mosaics feature some important figures of Ancient Greek mythology, but you don't have to be well-versed on that to enjoy the incredible quality of the pieces.

The first mosaic depicts the nine Muses of Greek mythology, with Calliope, the muse of epic poetry and arts, in the center surrounded by her sisters. Archaeologists believe it was originally located in a large room of a house.

The muse Thalia

The second mosaic depicts the divine figures of Oceanus and his wife Tethys in striking vivid colors, achieved with the use of special glass mosaic pieces. The third mosaic is smaller in size, and depicts an unidentified young man.

Zeugma is one of the most important centers in the Eastern Roman Empire, and excavations there had started in 2007.
Zeugma—located near the Syrian border—was originally founded as a Greek settlement in 300 BC by one of Alexander the Great's generals.
It is a great sight...And I really can't imagine how these archaeologists must have felt facing this miraculously preserved treasure for the first time! Breathtaking at least!
